If Rooms Could Talk
Every door opens to a different theme of decorator selected treasures featuring amazing people and places.
And their room name will offer a hint of what you will discover.
L'Apothecaire De Marie - Room 24
Antique science drawings, old apothecary bottles and jars are displayed in Room 24. Times have changed since Larry Nelson opened the Los Altos Pharmacy 84 years ago. Shortly thereafter, Sam Kahn opened the doors of Kahn's Corner Pharmacy - you will find one of his original compounding scales here, donated to the hotel. The population in Los Altos was a booming 1900 and to call the pharmacy, you only needed to dial 2 numbers - 22!
This collection is likely typical of what Madame Curie used and therefore this room is dedicated to her. A French citizen, she was a woman of many firsts: 1st woman to get a PhD at the Sorbonne in Paris, 1st woman to win a Nobel Prize along with her husband in Physics in 1903, 1st person of any gender to win a second Nobel Prize, this time for chemistry in 1911.
A tribute here in Silicon Valley where so many 1st’s have occurred.
